The Spanish National Research Council, Spain

The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) is the largest public research institution in Spain and the third largest in Europe. CSIC participates in the MicrobiomeSupport Action through the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA) and the Research Unit of Microbial Ecology, Nutrition & Health, led by Prof. Yolanda Sanz. The research team has expertise in microbiology, next generation sequencing and bioinformatics applied to microbiome profiling and metabolic network reconstruction. It has also developed expertise in cultivation of intestinal fastidious bacteria and the evaluation of their safety and functional role in nutrition and health in model organisms and humans. The group has coordinated one of the largest European projects on the human microbiome and its role in metabolic and mental health (MyNewGut; www.mynewgut.eu).
