With more and more recognition of the essential role of the microbiome in life-sustaining processes, researchers are calling for more education on the importance of microbes to raise competences of citizens and responsible bodies at all levels and stages of communities. Specifically, researchers suggest that:

  • Education on the microbiome is included in general school curricula
  • Engagement of microbiologists and microbially literate professionals is considered in the preparation of teaching material
  • Start a movement to achieve microbiology literacy
