Only a few more weeks to go and the world will celebrate all things microbial on World Microbiome Day, June 27th!

The theme of 2021 is ‘Sustainability’. Together we want to raise awareness on how microbes can contribute to a sustainable future. Although small in their size, microbes populate all corners of this planet and perform critical roles in the environments in which they live. They are essential for maintaining healthy global ecosystems and actively contribute to clean environments, sustaining food systems, mitigating climate change and keeping people healthy.

As every year, there are several ways you can engage in World Microbiome Day!

Here’s a list of fun activities:

  • Participate in one of the competitions. There are some great prices awaiting the winners!

    • Drawing competition for children: Let your creativity run wild and show everyone the world of microbes through your eyes.
    • Showcase your Food Microbe Hobby: Are you a gardener, sourdough baker, brewer, mushroom collector or have any other hobby related to microbes? Share it with the world!
  • Organize an online event and register it on the website. There are some cool tips available on how to organize a virtual event.

  • Test your knowledge and learn some interesting facts about microbiomes in one of the many quizzes.

  • Use social media to help raise awareness on the importance of microbiomes. Mark your posts with the hashtags #Microbiomes4Life and #WorldMicrobiomeDay. In the resources section you’ll find a lot of helpful information and material to post!

CIRCLES will be actively supporting the World Microbiome Day on social media. We have joined forces with our sister projects and created a lot of exciting new content that we will be introducing over the next few weeks. Look out for the hashtag #Microbiomes4Life to make sure you don’t miss it!
